RARE RECORDS - TEST


1. LEN HOPWOOD of England holds the record for bowling the most balls without a test wicket. He bowled 77 overs (462 balls) without taking a test wicket. ANWAR HOSSAIN MONIR of Bangladesh conceded the most runs without ever taking a test wicket. He conceded 307 runs from 58 overs (348 balls).
 
2. PAKISTAN has scored the most number of runs in a test match without an extra being bowled against India in Lahore in the 1954 – 55 season. They scored 328 in that innings. The record in first – class cricket is 647 made by Victoria against Tasmania in Melbourne in the 1951 – 52 season.

3. ALAN DAVIDSON of Australia hold the record for the highest runs scored and taking 10 wickets in a test match. He scored 80 and 44, and took 11 for 222 runs in the first ever tied test in Brisbane in 1960 – 61 against West Indies. In women’s test, ENID BAKEWELL of England scored 68 and 112 n.o. and took 10 for 75 against West Indies at Edgbaston in 1979.

4. The test record for maximum catch outs in a match is 33 out of the 36 wickets that fell between Australia and India at Perth in 1992. One of the rare wickets that wasn’t caught out in that match was Kapil Dev’s 400th test wicket when he dismissed Mark Taylor lbw.

5. The test record for the highest combined age (including the odd months) for a single dismissal in a test match is 103 years when Clifford Roach of West Indies was caught by GEORGE GUNN, 50 years, off WILFRED RHODES, 52 years,of England at Sabina Park in 1930.

6.ALASTAIR COOKof England holds the record of reaching 100 tests in the shortest time. He reached it in 7 years and 9 months. The next best was his predecessor Andrew Strauss, 8 years and 3 months.

7. WILFRED RHODES of England holds the record for having the longest ever test career spanning for almost 31 years. His career began in June 1899 and ended in April 1930.BRIAN CLOSE comes next in the list with a career spanning for 27 years from 1949 to 1976. He made his debut at the age of 18, remaining England’s youngest ever player.

8. TERRY ALDERMAN of Australia holds the record for dismissing the most different batsmen in a Test Series. He dismissed 23 different batsman during the 1989 Ashes Series in England. He’s three clear of another Australian, TED MCDONALD, who dismissed 20 different English batsmen in the 1921 Ashes Series. 

9.EKNATH SOLKAR of India holds the record for the best ratio of catches per matches. He has taken 53 catches from 27 matches at a rate of 1.96 per match. The next best is BOB SIMPSON’s 110 catches in 62 matches at the rate of 1.77 per match.

10. The highest partnership to be broken by a run – out was the second wicket stand between GARRY SOBERS and CONRAD HUNTE of West Indies. They scored 446 runs against Pakistan at Kingston in 1957 – 58. Hunte was run – out by Ijaz Butt, who came in as a substitute fielder.
