"Riding
is Living... Everything else is waiting..."
As the saying goes, the moments
that you spend when on wheels are considered to be the only time that you live.
I would like to oblige with those words. Being an ardent rider and an
automotive enthusiast myself, I step out and dedicate my first column for all
the moto junkies and automotive enthusiasts out there.
Automobiles have always caught my
attention since childhood. There is a tradition here in South India wherein the
moms find it easier to feed their children while pointing out to the moon and
reeling out fairy-tales. But in my case, as far as I can remember, my mom used
to point at cars and bikes most of the time. Yes. I have always had that little
knack for all things that zip past my eyes - be it cars, bikes or even
aircrafts for that matter. The motion blur that occurs, the brilliant red
light streaks that stroke the nights, the ever-spinning wheels, all these
things enchant me every single time when the car or bike flies across. Not to
forget about the sound that follows. Never does it fail to put a grin on my
face and a craving in my heart. It keeps happening on and on and on. There was
never an end to it.
And then
the clocks ticked away... I grew... Time passed by. Growth was inevitable. The
Automotive Industry was no exception. It grew to magnanimous levels, bringing
about revolutions in design and engineering. They grew so powerful to such an
extent that they could even determine the economy of a nation. The growth was
very evident in the way the products hit the Industry. The cars, the bikes, the
commercial vehicles, everything has changed from what I remember adoring during
my primary school days. The advancements in science and technology sculpted the
human minds, thereby changing design trends to greater levels. It’s like the
whole Industry was on steroids. Such rapid growth in such a short span of time.
One such event that could well define the growth of the Industry is the Auto
Expo 2014.
The Auto Expo
is a biennial automotive show held in New Delhi, India. It holds the
distinction of being the largest automotive show in Asia, and the second
largest on the planet. It was conceived in the year 1985 and the first
showcasing occurred in 1986. The '86 Auto Expo turned out to be a proving
ground for the Indian Automotive Industry to showcase its extensive growth and
ground-breaking technological innovations. The world started noticing the Industry
and the expo attracted manufacturers from all around the globe, where they can
flaunt their prowess in research and development. It also served to be the
stage for all the new launches from manufacturers.
