FIRSTS IN RECORDS – I


BILL BROWN

1. BILL BROWN of Australia was the first batsman to be run out on 99 in Tests in the year 1948 at the very famous MCG against India in the famous ‘Mankaded’ Series.

2. SACHIN TENDULKAR of India was the first batsman to be given out by a third umpire in tests for a run out. He was out by a throw from Jonty Rhodes.

3. CHARLES BANNERMAN of Australia is the first batsman to have scored a century on debut. He scored 165* against England. That was the first ever Test match to have been played in the history of cricket, in the year 1877 at MCG.

4. R.E.FOSTER of England is the first batsman to have scored a double – century on debut in the year 1903 at SCG against Australia. His score of 287 on debut remains the highest score on debut till date.

5. LAWRENCE ROWE of West Indies is the first batsman to have scored centuries in both the innings of his debut match against New Zealand at Sabina Park in the year 1972. He scored 214 in the first innings followed by 100* in the second. Yasir Hameed is the only other player to share this record.

6. VICTOR TRUMPER of Australia is the first batsman to have scored a century before the lunch session on day 1 against England at Manchester in the year 1902. He scored 103 before lunch and got out for 104. Virender Sehwag of India missed this rare feat against West Indies at St.Lucia in the year 2006 by 1 run.

7. BRIAN LARA of West Indies is the first and only player to have crossed the score 350 twice. Interestingly, both the scores were against England at the same venue with a gap of 10 years.  375 – 16/4/1994 and 400* - 10/4/2004 at Antigua.
 
8. GEORGE BONNOR of Australia was the first batsman to be dismissed as Hit – Wicket in Tests against England at Manchester in the year 1884. The latest is Darren Sammy of West Indies against Bangladesh at Dhaka in the year 2011.

9. WARREN BARDSLEY of Australia was the first batsman to score centuries in both innings of a test match against England in 1909. He scored 136 in the first innings and 130 in the second.

10. GEORGE ULYETT of England is the first batsman to score fifties in both innings of a test match against Australia at MCG in the year 1877. He scored 52 and 63 respectively.
